Obituary for Faye Elizabeth Lucas (Thacker)

Faye Elizabeth Lucas (Thacker)
Faye Thacker Lucas, age 90, daughter of Floyd and Mamie Ward Thacker, was born, December 19, 1926 in Gainesville, Florida. She passed away September 12, 2017 at Some Place Like Home Assisted Living Facility in Jacksonville, Florida.

Faye was a very loving, devoted mother and wife. She enjoyed gardening, living at the beach and spending time with her family. She also loved cooking and was always eager to try out a new recipe. It was important to her to take care of your health, so she made it her mission to learn about healthy eating and exercised regularly. In earlier years, she and her husband, Jack, learned ballroom dancing and extended their exercise to the dance floor. They were also devoted Gator football fans and traveled to every game for years, when they weren’t dancing. In recent years, when she was unsteady on her feet, she still went to chair exercise sessions every day.

They spent weekends at their condo on St Augustine Beach, so became committed members of Anastasia Baptist Church. When she could no longer travel, she would watch services on TV, taking comfort in the teachings of the Bible.

When she was 16, she lied about her age to get her first job. Over the course of her career, she worked at Tyndall Air Force Base, was a legal secretary and retired as the administrative assistant to the Director of Student Activities at FSCJ. In between all of this she raised 4 children. She made sure there were many family gatherings and she took pleasure in bringing the family together. She adored each of her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

After a serious fall in 2008, she became less capable of doing the things she loved most, but she never lost her love and concern for her family and for others. She will be remembered for her kindness, her smile and her loving gentle spirit. She rarely sat still, always eager to find a way to help someone else.

Faye was preceded in death by: her husband Jack Lucas, her son Wesley Barnes, her brothers and sisters

She is survived by: her daughters Wanda Barnes, Wannelle Parvey(Fred), son Wayne Barnes(Carol) and stepson Mike Lucas(Susan), her grandchildren Wendy Barnes-Thomassen(Maurice), Josh Barnes, Joe Parvey(Kim) and David Parvey and 5 great-grandchildren.
