Obituary for Harriet G Hollingshead

Harriet G Hollingshead passed peacefully on Saturday, September 24th, 2016. She is survived in death by her loving husband Brian and by her three sons Tim, Michael and David. She is pre-deceased by her daughter, Paula. Harriet is also survived by her two grandchildren Heather and Heidi, and by four sisters, Connie Hill (Brent), Marilyn Gill (Bob), Pamela Eichholz (Kenny) and Cathy McClamma, and her brother, Kent (Francine) and brother-in-law, Gil Witcher. She is pre-deceased by her sister Cynthia (Gil) and her brother Gene (April.)

Harriet was born in Jacksonville, second child in a family of eight. She adored her original family and remained close to each of her siblings throughout her life. She married Thomas Gross in 1966 and had two children, Paula and Tim. Thomas worked for the US Navy so Harriet's new family lived in many places. After three years, Harriet divorced Thomas and raised her two children alone back in Jacksonville. She obtained an associates degree in nursing and worked in several Jacksonville hospitals. In 1979 her small family ventured to Montana where she met her second husband Brian and they moved to Seattle. After a year they were married and moved to Vancouver, Canada. Harriet worked there as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) in a private Catholic hospital for 12 years. During this time her twin sons were born (David and Michael) in 1985. Then in 1990 Harriet's first child, Paula, died. Harriet and Paula were very close and the loss was devastating to her. Within a few years of Paula's death, Harriet returned to Jacksonville. She found a lovely home in University Park where she raised her children and lived for 20 years in retirement. For the last two years Harriet coped with numerous illnesses which eventually took her life. Since childhood Harriet had been a devoted Christian and her faith made her suffering bearable.
